Explore the Outdoors Activities
For each Explore the Outdoors activity completed, you’ll need to record a secret code in the activity guide.
Codes can be found at participating
location welcome centers and kiosks or by taking part in an Explore the Outdoors event.
Enter your codes online to win prizes and receive a printable certificate signed by Governor Ted Strickland. You can also submit the codes via mail by filling out a detachable postcard, located in each guide, and sending it in.
Instructions
- Complete any of the outdoor activities listed in the guide throughout the year at an Ohio park, forest or nature preserve (participating locations are listed on this site under the locations tab)
- Locate the Explore the Outdoors poster at participating location welcome centers and kiosks. The poster will contain a "secret code" that participants should record in their activity guide. Codes can also be obtained by taking part in an official Explore the Outdoors event (statewide events are listed under the events tab)
- Enter the codes online or send them via mail
- Should you have any questions or problems locating a poster or code, please call 614-784-PLAY or e-mail explore@dnr.state.oh.us and we'll send you the code for that activity
Prizes
For children who enter the codes online, there are three types of prizes they can win depending on how many activities are completed:
- Beginner Explorer (enter 2 to 4 activity codes) - discounted admission to the 2010 Ohio State Fair
- Intermediate Explorer (enter 5 to 7 activity codes) - one issue of Highlights magazine
- Advanced Explorer (enter 8 to 10 activity codes) - GreenBird birdhouse for the first 200 children
Children who choose to mail in the codes will be entered in a raffle. Winners will be drawn each month beginning June through December 2010. Prizes include:
- Chartered Lake Erie fishing trip for four
- Free camping getaway at an Ohio State Park
- Weekend stay at an Ohio State Park lodge
- A year's subscription to Highlights magazine
